Changes in Development of Urban Spatial Structure after 1990 - the Case Study of 5 Towns in South Bohemia

The thesis is focused on changes of spatial urban structure in context of post socialist transformation. The most important phenomena which affect the character of post socialist cities in the two last decades were pointed out on the base of studied literature. The development of the phenomena was examined as a case study of five towns in the Czech Republic. The election of the cities encompasses - Benešov, Jindřichův Hradec, Pelhřimov, Písek and Tábor. The research was pointed on the following features: new residential areas, the quality of estates and its regeneration, the changes caused by industry restructuring, the revitalization of brownfields, the new localization trends of retail and the city centre utilization changes. The aim of the thesis is considering the influence of process diffusion from the capital city. The results of the research indicated some trends of the studied features development. However the intensity of progressing changes was too marginal to assign definite conclusion.

Urbanization and suburbanization in urban regions of Prague and Vienna Darina Posová Abstract This PhD thesis is focused on the research of the urbanization and urbanization processes in the urban regions of Prague and Vienna. It analyses, compares and evaluates the urbanization and suburbanization in the urban regions of Prague and Vienna before and after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The objective of the thesis is to follow several intersecting levels of comparison. The comparison aims at showing the difference between the urbanization process in a former socialist and contemporary post-socialist city and the urbanization process in a capital city the development of which was not influenced by the principles of a directive social system. The thesis consists of two major parts. In the first part, general approaches to urbanization and suburbanization research are introduced and the results of an analysis of Prague and Vienna urban regions are summarized. The second part consists of six published or submitted papers analyzing the spatial distribution of population, housing, new housing construction in Prague urban region as well as comparing urbanization in Prague and Vienna urban regions in 1980s and 1990s. Foreigners within Karlovy Vary urban region: spatial distribution and influences on local environment Due to exceptional migration characteristics of Czechia among CEE countries and entire EU, foreigners are becoming more and more important component of population of our cities. This fact implies the growing importance of foreign population as an agent in process of shaping the lived space. The aim of this diploma thesis is the presence of foreigners within the urban region and broader environs of Karlovy Vary - which currently is a city with one of the highest proportions of foreign population in entire Czechia. Migration characteristics and mobility of population of area are analysed with emphasis on foreigners. Subsequently patterns of spatial distribution of significant groups of foreigners are explained on various levels, based on unique unpublished data from Czech Foreign police office. Then the core section of empirical part is the analysis of influence of foreign inhabitants on the local environment, which stems from detailed field research carried out by the author. The work varies between urban and migration studies and theoretically is roofed by concepts of socio-spatial differentiation and residential mobility. Gentrification in the context of revitalization of inner city of Bratislava

GENTRIFICATION IN THE CONTEXT OF REVITALIZATION OF INNER CITY OF BRATISLAVA Inner city of Bratislava is currently experiencing the revitalization processes which share similarities with the process of gentrification witnessed in many other advanced capitalist cities as well as postsocialist cities. Aim of this study is to analyse situation in Bratislava in a complex way and to respond on a question, if there is gentrification happening in the Capital of Slovakia, what is its extent, character and a general influence in the context of revitalization of the inner city. For these purposes, more types of research methods are used, in which social, physical and functional image of the selected area with the biggest potential for gentrification is observed, views and motivations of the local actors are explored and signs of possible conflicts are analysed. Office development in Prague between years 2006-2015 Abstract The thesis analyses the office development in Prague between years 2006 and 2015 as one of the processes that contributes to the transformation of urban spatial structure during transformation period. For the purpose of analysis the database of newly constructed offices was created, based on data by companies monitoring the real estate market. Based on the result of completed offices analysis was reported period divided into three phases: the peak of the office development before the crisis, a period of decline due to the global economic crisis and the current period of office development recovery. The new office development is concentrated in a few key areas. These areas are presented in detail and set in context of morphological zones of Prague and confronted with the development goals of Prague, expressed in the strategic plan.
